Since 2021 we have been working with Transport for London (TfL) to develop a Pan-TfL strategy for situation awareness which at its heart make use of CCTV technology and video analytics. Recognising that there are many “islands” across TfL and a lack of standards adoption plus a coherent strategy to the use of situation awareness technology, the DIVAT program was set-up to tackle this issue.
Developing this Pan-TfL integration platform will consume and output multiple capabilities to support coordinated operational views which will provide improved safety and management of the transport network, a commercial framework for future procurements, and achieve significant financial savings.
As part of this initiative, TfL is exploring the opportunities to enhance these operational systems and promote multi-use cameras with sharable API’s (as opposed to single use cameras) to satisfy multiple use cases where possible, allowing them to transfer data across all departments. These systems will have the ability to utilise existing standards and will be capable of adapting to future standards within the video and security marketplace.
Developing a new integrated platform, presents TfL with the opportunity to embrace emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data technology. AI will allow TfL to deliver its strategic objectives as a transport authority and provide significant advancements in the use of visual derived data and information. The use of AI technologies to auto detect and analyse will play a key role in supporting TfL with solving problems surrounding situational awareness.
